Congratulations… I now own a 44 pound Tripawd English Springer Spaniel!

Franklin’s surgery was a success!

He’s pretty heavily sedated.. and sleeping peacefully.  Breathing is good.  Heart is good.  He hasn’t been up to pee or anything yet because he just had the surgery done this morning.

I called back at 3 oclock to see how he was and he is still sleeping.  I told them I would call back at 6 before they closed to see how he is.. probably still be sleeping then!! lol  But I need to do that.. I need to know..

When he was weighed in this morning.. he weighed 49 pounds… I’m thinking.. how much does a leg weigh?  5 pounds?

The said he is bandaged up in a pretty pink bandage.  I said.. “what?  Pink?  my gawd.. thank goodness he’s sleeping.. he might see that and think he had a sex change!”

They are going to put blue on him tomorrow!

My heart is a bit lighter now….

I'm Canadian eh? living in Southwestern Ontario. My crew consists of my sweetie Fred, my son (25yrs) and my daughter (22yrs) as well as our 4 legged kids, Maggie (12yrs) and Wilson (1year). Franklin was my sweet boy who was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in September 2012. His leg was amputated on December 4, 2012. He was the cutest tripawd on this planet. He was happy every day. His tail was always wagging. Lung Mets took him from us on May 15, 2013. Rainbow bridge became a happier place with his arrival. We miss him terribly everyday. We lost our kitty in September 2012. Diesel, who was 18 1/2 years old when he passed at home, was (and still is) the Godfather. He is missed terribly by all. They are curled up together sleeping at the bridge under the stars, happy to be sleeping buddies again.

  1. Congrats for making the right decision. We are coming up on our one year anniversary for our tripawd schnauzer, Rufus. He also lost his front left leg and he has done wonderfully. This was MUCH harder on me than it was on him. After some slow first days, he has never looked back! He has never had any phantom pain, still jumps and runs like the wind and lets me see his joy for life each and every day! I walk him several times a day (a post- op promise I made to him and myself) and he is a little happy, hopping dog everywhere we go. Best wishes to you guys! Dee and Rufus

  2. We’ve had lots of debates about how much the leg weighs for each dawg. I’m gonna guess that for Frankie it’s about three. You’ll have to let us know!

I’m glad to hear that the surgery part is over! Yay! Now are you ready for the weekend?

Fear not, we’ll be here to help! I hope you have a wonderful reunion, the scariest part is over.
